Labels and tags serve as the face for many consumer products. Applications such as wine labels, bottle neck tags, door hangers, consumer product tags and other packaging labels incorporate useful (and sometimes mandatory) information as well as a brand identity.
A variety of finishing techniques, including UV coating, die cutting, embossing, debossing and foil stamping, can be combined with printing to bring your labels to life. To be sure the finished products match your expectations, keep these tips in mind:
- PMC die cutting, also known as high-die or deep die cutting, is a highly efficient process commonly used to create circumferential cuts on labels or tags. However, the registration accuracy of PMC deep die cutting is limited compared with conventional die cutting. While Apex Die does not offer PMC die cutting, our conventional die cutting capabilities are ideal for label and tag applications with very thin borders or other tight registration demands.
- UV coating allows brand names, logos and other design elements to jump off the label surface. They can also lend much-needed protection for many common label applications. To maximize protection and appearance, Apex Die recommends overall or flood UV coating, rather than spot UV coating, for label applications.
- The world of labels and tags is diverse; there are many specialty materials designed for specific applications. A point-of-purchase display that will adhere to a store window, for example, calls for a substrate that's removable. Choose a finishing partner with the experience and flexibility to help you identify and work with label and tag substrates that can meet your application's unique requirements.
